February 27, 2009 the Alabama Veterans of the 1948-1949 Berlin Airlift were celebrated, honored, and awarded special German American Freedom Awards at the beautiful new wing of the Southern Museum of Flight. These special awards were issued by the German Government in recognition of America having saved the people of Berlin and having stopped the Communist aggression by Russia 's Communist post-World War II regime of Joseph Stalin. All in all, 19 out of the 22 known, were present at the celebration, reception and dinner.

This past Friday 20th of February, 2009, a great remembrance service was held at the Davidson Center at the Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama for Mr. Konrad K. Dannenberg, a world renown “Rocket Team” member who had unfortunately passed away earlier in the week, on Monday the 16th.

The community is asked to help locate Berlin Airilift Veterans living in Alabama to be honored at the 60th Anniversary of the Berlin Airlift Celebration, which begins with an opening ceremony on February 27, 2009.
